Real Madrid agree to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG

Real Madrid & PSG’s Kylian Mbappe

An enormous claim has been publicised on social media this week from French journalist Baptiste Ripart.

He’s written in both French and English that Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Kylian Mbappe. Ripart wrote the following:
Real Madrid has agreed a 272M € deal for Mbappé. They will pay the transfer in 4 payments.

Is the rumour true?

Why should anyone believe Baptiste Ripart?
The story has been picked up by Spanish paper AS, who tell their readers that Baptiste Ripart has a good track record with breaking transfer news.
Ripart is credited with having announced that Antoine Griezmann would end up staying at Atletico Madrid and that Thomas Lemar was joining the Rojiblancos from Monaco.
Cynics, however, may argue that even if Ripart was right in the past, that doesn’t mean his Mbappe and Real Madrid story is true.

Reasons to believe Mbappe to Real Madrid

There appears to be some circumstantial evidence to believe the Mbappe story.
PSG are currently sweating to find out if they’ve breached UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.
In the event that UEFA came down on PSG, it’s plausible to believe could they sell Mbappe to balance their books.
And then there’s the Cristiano Ronaldo angle to the story.
This week rumours have exploded that not only will Ronaldo leave Real Madrid this summer, but he’s on his way to join Juventus.

Real Madrid deny Mbappe story

Since publishing this article, Real Madrid have posted an update on Mbappe on their website.
Real Madrid has said the Mbappe rumours are “false”.
